The construction of a new Parliament building is not on the Government’s immediate agenda, as Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday says the national focus remains firmly on healthcare infrastructure.
Speaking on radio recently, Dr. Friday said that given the country’s financial limitations, now is not the time to pursue a parliamentary complex. Instead, he pointed to the need to channel resources toward completing the Acute Referral Hospital at Arnos Vale, a major healthcare project expected to play a critical role in improving medical services across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
“We have to invest in what directly affects the well-being of our people,” the Prime Minister emphasized, adding that the Government continues to prioritize sectors that deliver measurable benefits to citizens.
Dr. Friday further stressed the importance of social development over grand construction works, noting that a National Health Insurance plan is also among the key policies the administration hopes to advance.
He said that while a new Parliament building may be considered in the future, the current priority must be strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring Vincentians have access to modern medical services.
