The case against a 17-year-old minor of Old Montrose, who was charged in connection with damage to property, has been withdrawn in the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.
The teen was arrested and charged by police on December 15, 2025, following investigations into an incident that reportedly occurred one day earlier, on December 14, in the Old Montrose community.
According to police, the minor was accused of unlawfully and maliciously damaging property belonging to a 65-year-old labourer, also of Old Montrose. The damaged items were identified as one aluminium-and-glass colonial sliding window valued at EC$407.25 and one 936×80 pine door valued at EC$390.48, bringing the total estimated cost of damage to EC$797.71.
Investigators alleged that the damage was caused when the minor used a stone to smash both the window and the door, with the intention of damaging the property. The matter was treated as an offence of damage to property under the criminal law.
Following his arrest, the 17-year-old was brought before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, December 16, where he was formally arraigned on the charge. During the court proceedings, the minor pleaded not guilty.
However, when the matter was called, the prosecution was unable to proceed, and the case was subsequently withdrawn for want of prosecution. As a result, no evidence was led against the minor, and the charge was dismissed at that stage.
The withdrawal of the case means that the teen leaves the court without a conviction in relation to the matter. No further details were disclosed in court regarding the circumstances that led to the prosecution’s inability to proceed.
