Opposition Leader Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has unequivocally rejected allegations concerning his wife’s business activities at Argyle International Airport, announcing that his legal team has begun preparing defamation actions against IWitness News and The Vincentian newspaper.
Addressing reporters during a press conference at the Unity Labour Party headquarters on Tuesday, Dr. Gonsalves condemned the claims carried in local media as “completely untrue,” adding that his wife, Eloise Gonsalves, has formally engaged attorneys to pursue redress. According to the Opposition Leader, the accusations—first raised in an opinion column by attorney and commentator Jomo Thomas—are unfounded and potentially damaging.
Dr. Gonsalves stressed that Highflyers, the airport restaurant operated by Mrs. Gonsalves, provided meals during the Hurricane Beryl relief effort solely on a voluntary basis, without submitting invoices to government agencies or humanitarian organisations. Any suggestion that the business profited from the crisis, he said, is “a clear, dastardly lie.”
The Opposition Leader reserved pointed words for IWitness News editor Kenton Chance, who attended the briefing. Looking directly at Chance, Dr. Gonsalves declared, “Expect a lawyer letter,” underscoring his intention to confront what he characterised as reckless and defamatory reporting.

People are forming opinions because the Gonsalves got stinking rich during the 25 years of his being in power. We want to know exactly where that wealth came from. We have also been waiting for 10 years to hear about the allegation regarding the Swiss bank account in his name that contained $19 million dollars. https://www.ieyenews.com/peter-binose-i-am-asking-pm-ralph-gonsalves-for-an-update-on-the-hsbc-swiss-bank-account-with-us19-million-in-his-name/
It may well be that attack is the best form of defense.
