The fast ferry Jaden Sun, which operates between St. Vincent and the Southern Grenadines, is expected to be out of operation at least through the weekend due to technical difficulties.
This development comes at a critical time, as Jaden Sun has been a vital maritime link between Kingstown and the Southern Grenadines following the devastation of Hurricane Beryl on July 1.
A company spokesperson informed Cliplet News that the vessel is currently en route to Kingstown from the Southern Grenadines to undergo examination. However, technicians will need several hours to assess the problem, as the vessel must cool down before any work can commence.
“We aim to resolve the issue over the weekend and will provide an update by Monday,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier on Thursday, the company announced on Facebook that the vessel would be out of operation “until further notice.” They added, “As we work on the problem, we will keep the public updated. We regret any inconvenience caused by this disruption.”
These technical difficulties have arisen just four days into a two-week contract with the government, intended to ferry people between Kingstown, Canouan, Mayreau, and Union Island on weekdays. On July 2, the company sponsored a trip to the Southern Grenadines, which have been without electricity and telecommunication since the hurricane, re-establishing the first link between St. Vincent and the impacted islands.
During this trip, numerous individuals, including those in urgent need of medical attention, were evacuated to Kingstown. The vessel can complete the 36-mile journey between Kingstown and Union Island in two hours, significantly faster than other ferries. This efficiency allowed hurricane-displaced residents to travel from Kingstown to Union Island and back in a single day, providing a crucial lifeline in the aftermath of the storm.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
