The Press Officer to the Prime Minister, Shevrell McMillan, has alleged that individuals he described as “NDP operatives” may attempt to influence supermarket prices from today onward, saying the opposition is engaging in “mischief-making” and attempting to create public confusion.
McMillan made the comments during a youth event hosted by the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) in Richmond Hill on Sunday night.
He accused the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) of spreading “lies” and “making up things,” and said the party has “no proper plans” for the country.
McMillan further claimed — without offering evidence — that shoppers could see unusual price increases on supermarket shelves this week.
“When you go to the supermarket today, you will see prices on some items jumping higher and higher,” he told supporters. “A lot of the workers pushing this are NDP operatives. That’s how you will know who is working with the NDP.”
He alleged that the supposed price adjustments were intended to give the impression that the economy is unstable in order to generate criticism of the government.
McMillan said the ULP administration remains focused on development and contrasted that with what he described as the opposition’s attempts to “manufacture problems instead of offering real solutions.”
The NDP has not yet responded to the allegations.
