Opposition Leader Elect Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has firmly rejected claims that he has resigned as political leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP), declaring that he remains fully in charge of the party and committed to leading its parliamentary opposition.

Speaking in a live address, Gonsalves said he has “not resigned from anything” and emphasized that he continues to serve both as Leader of the Opposition and political leader of the ULP. He dismissed rumors of internal collapse, insisting that the party is “very much alive.”

Says New Regime Showing Signs of Political Victimization

During his address on StarFM today, Gonsalves accused the new administration of already showing signs of political victimization. While he did not provide details, he claimed that actions were being taken against ULP supporters and warned that he is prepared to respond through the courts.

“If any political victimization comes to me or to my family, legal action will be taken,” he said, stressing that he will not be intimidated and will continue to speak out.

Vows to Hold New Government to High Standards

Gonsalves pledged that his performance as Opposition Leader will meet “the highest standards,” stating that his duty is now to hold the new government accountable and ensure proper governance.

He said that under his leadership, the Opposition will closely monitor policies, decisions, and the treatment of citizens:
“My work will be of the highest standard as Opposition Leader. I will hold them to account.”

ULP Preparing for Next Election

The longtime ULP leader insisted that the party’s defeat is only temporary, describing Labour as “alive and strong.” He said the ULP intends to contest the next general election vigorously—“whether in 2030 or before.”

Gonsalves told supporters that the party is already regrouping and preparing for a political comeback:
“Labour is very much alive. The ULP will run again.”

Senators to Be Selected Tomorrow

He also announced that the ULP executive will meet tomorrow to select two senators who will serve with him on the Opposition benches in Parliament. These appointments, he said, are part of the party’s effort to stabilize its parliamentary presence and begin rebuilding immediately following the election.

“We are organizing, we are focused, and we are moving forward,” he said.
