Police have charged a Dickson Village farmer with murder following the fatal shooting of a fellow resident last weekend.
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said 33-year-old Rhyse Henry, a farmer of Dickson Village, was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Aug. 5, in connection with the death of Clydon Cato, a 35-year-old labourer from the same community.
According to police, the charge relates to an incident in Dickson Village on Saturday, Aug. 1, during which Cato sustained fatal injuries. He died at the scene, prompting a homicide investigation.
Henry has been charged with murder, contrary to Section 159(1) of the Criminal Code, Chapter 171 of the Revised Laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, 2009.
He is expected to appear before the Serious Offences Court to answer the indictable charge.
The charge comes days after the fatal shooting shocked residents of the North Windward community. Initial reports indicated that Cato was shot and killed in Dickson Village on Saturday afternoon, sparking an intensive police investigation. Detectives subsequently identified and arrested a suspect before laying the murder charge.
Police have not publicly disclosed a motive for the killing or released details about the circumstances that led to the shooting. As the matter is now before the courts, investigators are expected to limit further public comment while legal proceedings are ongoing.
The case remains under investigation.
