Public servants across St. Vincent and the Grenadines have something to smile about as January approaches. Prime Minister Dr. Godwin Friday confirmed this morning that a long-discussed salary bonus is officially on the way.
Speaking on AM Mayhem on Hot97, the Prime Minister stepped into the studio to address several national issues, including the growing public conversation around government workers’ compensation. One of the biggest takeaways from the interview: the bonus is real, approved, and coming soon.
According to Dr. Friday, the payment is expected in the latter part of January and will be issued separately from regular salary payments. He explained that this means public servants should not expect the bonus to appear alongside their normal monthly wages, but as a distinct payment.
Even more encouraging, the Prime Minister revealed that some public servants could receive a bonus equal to — or even greater than — their monthly salary, depending on their category and circumstances.
When asked directly when workers can expect the payment, Dr. Friday was clear and measured in his response. While January is the target, he emphasized that the bonus will be processed independently of the regular payroll cycle to ensure smoother distribution.
Dr. Friday also used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to supporting public servants and recognizing their contribution to the country’s development.
